Parents: Are you confused with the promotion criteria in Secondary Schools?
Do you have a child who is in Normal (Academic), N(A) or Normal (Technical),N(T) stream in a mainstream secondary school in Singapore? Are you worried that they will be stuck in N(A) or N(T) throughout? I have compiled the information and made them into a flow chart for easy reading below.
From the information, we can see that it is very possible that students from N(A) can promote to Express in the first two years of their secondary school life. Likewise, for N(T) student there is also hope to promote to N(A) and maybe even Express further on. On the other hand, students from Express can demote to N(A) if they were to slack off and not attain the promotional criteria.
For the 4N(A) students, the situation looks a little more complicated. When they have complete their N Level Examinations, they have the option of going on to 5N(A), apply for higher Nitec or even Polytechnic Foundation Programme.
Hopefully, with this little summary, parents can better advise their children , and students have better knowledge of what they can pursue in the near future.
